It was a difficult fall. We have never seen such extreme heat so late in the year. On the plus side our lettuce is in and beautiful. We cannot eat it fast enough, and have a second bed coming in.

We suggest picking outer leaves leaves from the plant for salads. With this method we can often harvest into spring.

With the heavy rains coming please inspect your plants for slugs and snails. Picking them off in the wet weather is often the most effective during rainy periods. Using the beer bait method works well during a dry spell. Use a shallow can (tuna fish or cat food), push it into the dirt so the edge is slightly over the level of the dirt and fill 1/2 to 3/4 full of beer. The snails and slugs will climb in and not come out.
