It has been amazing to meet so many people at the farmers market. We are finally in the full swing of summer planting. this will be out last week at the Walnut Creek Farmers Market. We will be in Orinda for one or two more weeks. When meeting you all please know we love questions and are always available via email. We also love hearing what you want and like.

This is our first year and there has been so much to learn, we are listening and hope to have more of your favorites next year.

We thought it would be helpful to provide our tomato growing tips, just in case!

Tomatoes grow roots from the hairs on their stems. When you plant, plant the stem several inches deep. This will allow the root system to grow stronger and deeper. When we grow your tomatoes we do this twice to try to have the strongest healthiest plants we can grow.

Do not plant tomatoes, or plants in the Nightshade (Solanacae family) in the same location year after year. Fungi may build up in the soil and will ultimately kill future plants. Rotate your plant families in locations/beds. Remove bottom leaves, disease is often spread from soil.

Mix in a well balanced, organic fertilizer when you dig your hole.

As your plant grows remove side shoots, taking care not to remove blossoms. A quick search online will help you distinguish between the two.

Replying to

If lower leaves turn yellow, remove them and watch for early blight. this will look like leaves are drying up. Remove these and spray with a Hydrogen Peroxide solution, Here is a link to a good You tube video on the subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OANcSiKZzyQ

If the upper leaves are, you may have a nitrogen (or other essential mineral) deficiency, fertilize with a good vegetable fertilizer. EB Stone makes an excellent produce.
