Most summer veggies are not cold hardy. when looking at seedlings even less so. Cucumbers, squash, melons, basil and tomatoes all need to be over the temperature range of 50-60 degrees (dependent on type of plant). The common thought is no frost, however temperatures in the 40's and even low 50's can stunt or kill plants. Keep in mind plants need two elements in soil, water and air. Saturated soil, from excessive rain can drown roots and cause rot. This year has been wet and cold, we are keeping our fingers crossed that mid to late April will finally provide a safe time to plant!
